1. How did Pericles advance democracy?
Pericles did many things to advance democracy in Athens. He mostly gave more balance between poor and rich people. One thing he did was make more paying political jobs. This way even poor people could be in the government and still make enough money to survive. He also made it so that trials are not based on apersons social class, but what he has done for Athens. Pericles did a lot to strengthen democracy in Athens.
4. How does the way Athenian citizens voted on laws compare with how most countries' citizens vote? Which makes more sense to you? Explain your answer.
In Athens everyone was allowed to vote and propose laws. Today people elect officials who decide the laws, so not everyone picks laws. I think that the Athenian way makes more sense because this way even normal people can have a say in a law they think is fair or unfair. Today, some laws are bad for the people and they don’t get a say until they start protesting. I think the Athenian way makes more sense.
5. How was the Athenian view of a citizen different from the U.S. view of a citizen? Which makes more sense to you? Explain your answer.
The Athenian view of a citizen is 18 or over, a man, and was born of only Athenian parents. They also couldn’t be slaves. In America a citizen is someone who was born their or went through the citizenship process. I think the American way makes more sense because this way anybody can become a citizen if they want to and men and women can vote. I think the U. S. view of citizenship makes more sense than the Athenian way.

2. What trait did Pericles believe was important to qualify for public service?
Pericles said, “It is not the membership of a particular class, but the actual ability of the man.” This means that he believed that it doesn’t matter if you are poor, you can still qualify for public service.
4. How does the way Athenian citizens voted on laws compare with how most countries' citizens vote? Which makes more sense to you? Explain your answer.
In Athens every citizen votes on everything, but in other countries the citizens choose a representative to vote for them. It makes more sense to me the way Athens did it, because what if the representative didn’t represent you well.
5. How was the Athenian view of a citizen different from the U.S. view of a citizen? Which makes more sense to you? Explain your answer.

2. What trait did Pericles believe was important to qualify for public service?
Pericles believed that everyone is equal before the law. He also believes that a person is not a membership of a particular class, but the actual ability which the man processes.
4. How does the way Athenian citizens voted on laws compare with how most countries' citizens vote? Which makes more sense to you? Explain your answer.
The Athenians can propose and vote directly on laws, while the governments of the other countries are the only one who chooses the law. All Athenian citizens can participate in running the government. I think the Athenian way of voting for law is correct. As, everyone has a opinion and the citizens can decide together if that is good for their society, while the government of other countries only choose, the law that they create might be unfair to the citizens.
5. How was the Athenian view of a citizen different from the U.S. view of a citizen? Which makes more sense to you? Explain your answer.
The Athenian citizens elected a person for the government by choosing randomly, only a free male over 18 and son of Athenian born parents can be chosen; while the citizens in other countries elect representatives to take care of the government’s business. I think how the other countries vote makes more sense to me. As, in Athenian what if a really dumb guy takes over, and what if he goes corrupt? Then what would we do? But in the other countries the votes go on for a few rounds to find the right person.

1. How did Pericles advance democracy?
Pericles wanted to change the balance between the rich and the poor. In about 430 B.C., Pericles gave his view of democracy in a speech honoring Athenian soldiers that were killed in war. Pericles then changed the rule for holding public office. He increased the number of public officials who were paid, meaning poor citizens could hold a public office if they were elected.
4. How does the way Athenian citizens voted on laws compare with how most countries' citizens vote? Which makes more sense to you? Explain your answer.
While all Athenian citizens ran the government, most countries elect representatives to run the government business. I would prefer if we elect certain people to run the government. Because if we all run the government, there will bound to be fights or disagreements over certain small things.
5. How was the Athenian view of a citizen different from the U.S. view of a citizen? Which makes more sense to you? Explain your answer.
In Athens, to be a citizen, you would have to be a free male, over 18, and the son of Athenian-born parents. In the U.S., anyone that was born in the United States and has registered their birth there, or has been living there for a certain amount of years, is a citizen. I prefer the U.S. view of a citizen because to be a citizen in Athens, you would have to follow really specific criteria and in the U.S., anybody could be a citizen.

1. How did Pericles advance democracy?
2. What trait did Pericles believe was important to qualify for public service?
He said that everyone is equal before the law. And what counts in public service was not membership of a certain class, but the actual ability a man possesses.
3. How did gaining control of the Delian League increase Athens' power?
4. How does the way Athenian citizens voted on laws compare with how most countries' citizens vote? Which makes more sense to you? Explain your answer.
Athens used a direct democracy to run their government. That meant everyone was allowed to participate in government. I think that direct democracies are not the best way of running the government because if everyone is allowed to participate, people who have less experience in government have the same chance of being voted. In a representative government the majority of citizens get what they want by electing a certain person for president.
5. How was the Athenian view of a citizen different from the U.S. view of a citizen? Which makes more see to you? Explain your answer.

3. How did gaining control of the Delian League increase Athens' power?
It meant Athens had more money and this lead to them making a strong navy. And since other city-states were part of it they used their navy to take control of other city-states which made them expand.
4. How does the way Athenian citizens voted on laws compare with how most countries' citizens vote? Which makes more sense to you? Explain your answer. Athens was a direct democracy so citizens could vote on the laws they wanted directly. In other countries the citizens vote for representatives. These people were the ones who voted on the laws. I would think Athenian way makes more sense because if you choose the wrong representatives you may not get what you want.
5. How was the Athenian view of a citizen different from the U.S. view of a citizen? Which makes more sense to you? Explain your answer.

3. How did gaining control of the Delian League increase Athens' power? Athens helped organize the Delian Leauge. Pericles used the money from the treasury to build a strong navy. It had 300 warships. This made athens the strongest navy in the mediteranien region. Now that Athens had a strong navy it took over leadership of the Delian Leauge. Then the Delian Leauge moved to Athens making their power even stronger.
4. How does the way Athenian citizens voted on laws compare with how most countries' citizens vote? Which makes more sense to you? Explain your answer. The way Athenain citizens voted on laws was pretty different to those in other countries. In Athens they used the form of government called direct democracy. This is when all citizens participate in running the government. In other countries the U.S for example have a representive democracy. The U.S citizens elect representatives to take care of the government.
5. How was the Athenian view of a citizen different from the U.S. view of a citizen? Which makes more sense to you? Explain your answer. The Athenian citizens all participate in running the government. Whereas the U.S citizens elect a person to be a representive of the government.

1. How did Pericles advance democracy?
He believed that every people are equal away from how rich people are. He thought only rich people serving government is not correct. He thought important thing is whether the person has ability or not. He also gave speech in front of Athenians at 430 B.C. He made poor citizens also could hold public office when they are elected by citizens.
4. How does the way Athenian citizens voted on laws compare with how most countries' citizens vote? Which makes more sense to you? Explain your answer.
Instead of other democracy, Athenian citizens used direct democracy, which every citizens participate and vote when government have to decide on political issue. In US, they use representative democracy, which elected representatives votes. I thinks direct democracy is more accurate because even people pick responsible representatives, they can choose what is benifitting themselves.
5. How was the Athenian view of a citizen different from the U.S. view of a citizen? Which makes more sense to you? Explain your answer.
Athenian citizens were all allowed to participate on the political judgement, but not all U.S. citizens were allowed to participate on judgement. Instead, representatives had more power. In Athens, every citizens were in same level because they can vote. In U.S. representatives had some more powers then popular citizens because they are who actually vote.

3. How did gaining control of the Dalian League increase Athens' power?
Greek depended on over sea trade, at the end of the war against Persia; Greece formed a league for mutual protection called, Delian League. It’s called Delian League because its headquarters and treasury were located on the island of Delos. Perciles is from Athens and used money from the leagues treasure to build a strong navy. The naval fleet was made up of 300 warships. Athens was the strongest region in Mediterrian region because Athens had superior navy, it took over leadership of the Delian League. In 454 B.C., the Delian League was moved to Athens. This is what gave Athens the power to be more powerful over its neighboring people, Athens starting treating other people like the Athenians were conquered people.
5. How was the Athenian view of a citizen different from the U.S. view of a citizen? Which makes more sense to you? Explain your answer.
In Athens you could vote only if you were a male and above 18; While in America you can vote if you are a male or female. In Athens the leader is randomly selected or elected while in America it is always elected. In Athens there are around 500 jurors while in US there are only around 12. In Athens it was direct democracy while in US it was representative democracy. To be a citizen in Athens your parent would have to be born in Athens, you would have to be a male above 18. In US you could be born in US or you could complete citizenship process I would prefer the way US’s government because all genders could vote, and because the leader is elected not chosen randomly.
