1. How did Pericles advance democracy? 2. What trait did Pericles believe was important to qualify for public service? 3. How did gaining control of the Delian League increase Athens' power? Because Pericles was making navys in Delian League, and the League’s headquarter n was moved to Athene. Than from that time Athene dominated all city-states like if he conqured them. 4. How does the way Athenian citizens voted on laws compare with how most countries' citizens vote? Which makes more sense to you? Explain your answer. I think the way other countries vote marke more sense to me, because in Athene it’s a direct democracy all citizens votes on laws, but in other countries only the representatives are elceted to law-making body. 5. How was the Athenian view of a citizen different from the U.S. view of a citizen? Which makes more sense to you? Explain your answer. Vikram ;D Welcome Back! Respond to the following questions while using your notes. 1. How did Pericles advance democracy? 2. What trait did Pericles believe was important to qualify for public service? He believed that everyone is equal before the law, It’s not where you came from or which class, but the ability that th man possesses. 3. How did gaining control of the Delian League increase Athens' power? 4. How does the way Athenian citizens voted on laws compare with how most countries' citizens vote? Which makes more sense to you? Explain your answer. The Athenians had a few comparisons to how people voteed to now days. For example, Athenians held elections to vote and propose on laws directly. Also, to elect their leaders. Furthermore, anybody that was an Athenian citizen can run for a position to be a leader. Athenians are not so different from the United States if you think about it. 5. How was the Athenian view of a citizen different from the U.S. view of a citizen? Which makes more sense to you? Explain your answer. Athens and the United States had different views in a citizen. First, the age Athenian citizens had to be 18, but United States have the option of being born to be a citizen. Furthermore, you had to have parents that were free citizens in order to be a cititzen, while United States makes you a citizen by just being born there. Last, in the United States you can be born by any gender to be a citizen, unlike Athens where you have to be a male to become a citizen. They had very different views.

3. How did gaining control of the Delian League increase Athens' power? ANS: This League was for mutual protection. Because of Athens superior navy it took over leadership in the Delian League. In 454 B.C, the Delian League treasure was moved over to Athens. Because of the money Athen developed so much that they became part of the Athenian Empire. They also beatified Athen.
4. How does the way Athenian citizens voted on laws compare with how most countries' citizens vote? Which makes more sense to you? Explain your answer. ------------
5. How was the Athenian view of a citizen different from the U.S. view of a citizen? Which makes more sense to you? Explain your answer. ANS: The form of government used in Athens was direct democracy. In a direct democracy all citizen in Athens could participate in running the government. In the US it is a representative democracy. In the Athenian Democracy more than 500 jurors could serve. In Athens leaders are selected randomly. I think the US way makes more sense to me. Because I think it’s fairer.

1. How did Pericles advance democracy?
Before the time of Pericles, the leaders already began to expand the democracy. Pericles agreed with these changes, but Pericles changed the rule for holding public offices. Most of the public officials were unpaid before Pericles came, but Pericles increased the number of public officials who were paid. This way even people who were poor could be an official if elected or randomly chosen. Pericles also gave a speech about his view of democracy and he honored the Athenians soldiers killed in war.
4. How does the way Athenian citizens voted on laws compare with how most countries' citizens vote? Which makes more sense to you? Explain your answer.
First of all, Athenians citizens were different from the citizens we think of now. Athenian citizens had to be a free male, over 18, and the son of Athenian born parents. Athens was a direct democracy while the U.S is a representative democracy, meaning both male and female can vote. In Athens only their citizens could propose and vote on laws. Now, both male and female can elect people to take care of the government. I think the ways now make more sense because people can vote on their own leaders. (People meaning anyone)
5. How was the Athenian view of a citizen different from the U.S. view of a citizen? Which makes more sense to you? Explain your answer.
As mentioned before Athenian citizens were only males over 18 and the son of Athenian born parents. U.S citizens can be male or female of any age. But in the U.S there is a certain age you have to be to vote but anyone of any age can be a citizen. The person has to be from the country though or have lived there for a while. I think the U.S view of a citizen makes more sense since it’s more sensible. If only males can be citizens that takes out half of the population right there. If other people aren’t born to Athenian parents that takes out some people too. Basically, not many people voted in Athens.

1. How did Pericles advance democracy? Pericles had few goals to achieve in his life, and developing democracy was one of his goals. He thought that everyone was equal to the law, so he suggested that everybody including the poor people should vote, just like the rich ones. He made that any free male born from Athenian parents of age 18 could’ve vote. Also, he changed the public office’s rule. Any person who’s voted could’ve held an office. 4. How does the way Athenian citizens voted on laws compare with how most countries' citizens vote? Which makes more sense to you? Explain your answer. Athens and U.S.’ have some difference. First, their form of democracy was different. Athens had the Direct Democracy, all citizens participating on the government. U.S. practiced the Representative Democracy, which is a form of democracy of voting the representatives. I think the Representative Democracy makes more sense, because Direct Democracy is which everybody gets to vote and propose the laws, and the Representative Democracy stands for the elected one is the charge of the laws. If citizens propose and vote the law, there is no use of existent of government, because they are the elected and the ruler. 5. How was the Athenian view of a citizen different from the U.S. view of a citizen? Which makes more sense to you? Explain your answer.

3. How did gaining control of the Delian League increase Athens' power? The fleet of Athens the strongest in the Mediteranian region which then with that power they took over the Delian League. Percles even used the league’s treasury to build a strong navy. The nacal fleet was made up of 300 warships.
4. How does the way Athenian citizens voted on laws compare with how most countries' citizens vote? Which makes more sense to you? Explain your answer. I think the Athenian way of voting for law is a good way then most people could then have their thought taken into account.
5. How was the Athenian view of a citizen different from the U.S. view of a citizen? Which makes more sense to you? Explain your answer. The leader is either randomly selected or elected and in the U.S the leader is always elected.

2. What trait did Pericles believe was important to qualify for public service? 4. How does the way Athenian citizens voted on laws compare with how most countries' citizens vote? Which makes more sense to you? Explain your answer. Unlike other countries, all the Athenian citizens came to vote on whether to approve or disapprove a law coming into effect. In the U.S., a law comes into effect by a bunch of representatives coming together and voting on approving it or not. If they approve, it goes to the president and he/she either signs it (approved) or stamps ‘veto’ on it (disapproved). The U.S. way makes more sense to me because I knew it off-hand. 5. How was the Athenian view of a citizen different from the U.S. view of a citizen? Which makes more sense to you? Explain your answer. In Athens, only free men with Athenian-born citizen parents could be citizens. In the states, anyone over 18 can be a citizen. The U.S. way of citizenship makes more sense to me because it is more open and everyone can be a citizen. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Gower
