1. In which form of government do the fewest people share power? I think it is a monarchy because a monarchy is ruled by a single king or queen. This means they rule by themselves. Oligarchies, and aristocracies are ruled by few people which is still more than one person. Monarchies have the fewest people ruling since the least people you can have ruling a city-state, is one person. 2. How did the geography of Greece lead to the rise of city-states? The area of Greece was divided into many small areas. With these small areas they made it easier to have the small areas of city-states. The people of Greece didn’t have to divide Greece themselves, the already had it divided into nice little sections. There were some geographic barriers like mountains which made their size limited 3. What made democracy in Athens a limited democracy? The people of Athens who were in the lower classes demanded they be given more power. Then Solon came and made things more even and even helped stop a peasant revolt this way Solon and Cleisthenes helped make a democracy the limited democracy. The limited democracy didn’t incude everyone in the sity-state 4. What were the key factors leading to the rise of tyrants? Explain. A key factor leading to the rise of the Tyrants is that all of the poor people wanted some power. The tyrants got backed up by all the “rebels” who wanted power which helped them get farther. The poor people thought that the wealthy tyrants would get them some kind of power in voting or something else. Tyrants almost depended on these people to get their power. 5. Why was the invention of the idea of citizenship important to the development of democracy? To the Greeks, cizitenship meant the right for voting and getting power. A lot of things in Greece were about getting power as explained in the questions above. If Greek people were citizens they had some right to vote and have little power. -Aleena ;D

1. In which form of government do the fewest people share power? There are usually two government types which have the fewest people sharing power are Aristocracy, and Oligarchy. The root Aristos means the best, and kratos, for power. It meant that there were very few people who had the best powers. For oligarchy, the root word oligos meant few, and arkhe meant rule. So generally, oligarchy meant ruled by the few. These two had the fewest people in government sharing the power.
2. How did the geography of Greece lead to the rise of city-states?
The geography of Greece, first, there were acropolis, which meant fortified hills. First people thought that this was for defense, but then started to build public buildings at the flat tops of the hills, and also built temples and palaces. Also, the hills might’ve divided the land of the Greece, so it might’ve helped to let the city-states rise.
3. What made democracy in Athens a limited democracy?
The tyrants made the limits of democracies, because tyrants were people who were ruling a region illegally. Tyrants took all the power of the government, and ruled the region. This affected the limits of democracy, because as the tyrants increased, they overthrew the oligarchy, and started to rule by the tyrant himself. These actions made the limit of democracy, because tyrants belonged to communism. As the tyrants increased, poor people were started to be totally excluded from the government, and democracy was overthrown.
4. What were the key factors leading to the rise of tyrants? Explain.
Poor people weren’t given the choice whether to be part of Oligarchy, Monarchy, or even Aristocracy; because of that, discontent of the poor people increased, and they were released to a rebel. Some of the rich people used that fact to make them to their side, meaning to support. Of course, poor people supported those people, and the tyrants rose.
5. Why was the invention of the idea of citizenship important to the development of democracy? Democracy was never like communism, where the tyrants take everything. Democracy gives the right to everyone a chance to rule their own city-state. That was the citizenship. Especially, the poor people demanded for citizenship, because they couldn’t be a part of the government, and there might’ve been smart ruler who could’ve ruled the city-states well.

Vikram 1. In which form of government do the fewest people share power? I think the government with the least amount of people ruling is a monarch. I think it is, because there is only a king or queen ruling, while the other government’s gets a lot more people than one person in the government than just one. This is why I think a monarch has the least people. 2. How did the geography of Greece lead to the rise of city-states? I think the geography led to the rise of city-states for many reasons. The mountains helped form a close community. So, they had form Polises or city states. Furthermore, they had acropolises which were first for statues, temples and so on. They thought that higher lands were easier to defend. Then they started to build buildings and residences. There were about 20,000 residences. This is why 8i think the land forms raised the City-States. 3. What made democracy in Athens a limited democracy? I think they had a limited democracy for the way of how they ruled. Like, they helped the tyrants rise to power. This made the tyrants think that they could influence the government; as a result they wanted more political power for themselves. Furthermore, to be able to be free your parents have to be free citizens. This is why I think they had a limited democracy. 4. What were the key factors leading to the rise of tyrants? Explain. There are many key factors to the rise of the tyrants was the way they behaved to the citizens. For example, wealthy people that took advantage of the poor people that rebelled a lot. They asked the poor to support them, so they can become leader. Sometimes, rulers thought that they were people that acted like kings, but sometimes they helped the poor. Tyrants were good people and sometimes bad people. 5. Why was the invention of the idea of citizenship important to the development of democracy? It was important to the Greeks to see who was eligible to vote and who was able to rule a city-state. Furthermore, such a change was not easy. There were two parts to citizenship, the upper and lower class. The upper classs had more power.

1. In which form of government do the fewest people share power? The form of government that the fewest people share power is oligarchy. 2. How did the geography of Greece lead to the rise of city-states? Because of Greece’s geography Greece is divided in to many small regions. The basic form of government was the city-state and because the city-state was small the people who lived in it formed a close community. 3. What made democracy in Athens a limited democracy? 4. What were the key factors leading to the rise of tyrants? Explain. The key factors leading to Tyrants were Monarchy, Aristocracy, and Oligarchy. Because in all of these government types no one cared about the poor people. So the poor people started rebelling. Tyrants are people who want to seize power by force. The Tyrants know the hatred poor people have against the government so they use that anger to their advantage; which means that he asks poor people for support. There are good Tyrants or bad Tyrants 5. Why was the invention of the idea of citizenship important to the development of democracy? Citizen means a person entitled to protection by the government. There were upper-class citizens and lower-class citizens. Upper-class citizens hold all the power. The lower-class citizens were asking for major change in their society. After that Cleisthenes increased each citizen’s power. He took the power away from the nobles. Any citizens can now vote for the law which led to Democracy. ;D
