1. What is the relationship between Brahmanism and Hinduism? Brahmanism is the name of the Ancient Aryan culture. Hinduism and Brahmanism both are polytheistic. They also both hold religious ceremonies. Some in which may last a long time. They both (sometimes) make religious sacrifices to the gods. Sacrifices meaning killing animals or humans and presenting them to the gods. For Hindus it depends on the caste, but the main idea is they make sacrifices. These two religions are much like each other. 2. What are some of the biggest differences between Aryan and Harappan culture? The Aryans lived a more simple life. Compared to the Harappans, they were herders. They lived in simple houses and they spoke Sanskrit. Aryans were nomads, while the Harappans settled in a village. 3. Explain the relationship between the caste system, reincarnation, and karma. The caste system determined what you would be in your next life. If you did good deeds, in your next life you would be higher (or more successful) and if you did bad deeds, you would be lower, or maybe even an untouchable! Karma is the actual idea of reincarnation. So, karma is the rules for reincarnation, then reincarnation depends on the caste system. 4. What changed the long-held theory that Aryans drove out the Harappan people? Historians first thought that Aryans made chaos that drove out the Harappans, but new research shows (or found) that there were ruins before the Aryans had come to where the Harappans were. Historians think they could’ve been dragged out before because of earthquakes and droughts. For the last question please refer to the passage from the Bhagavad Gita on page 230. 5. What values of a warrior culture does the passage express? It shows that a warrior should always be determined, and never be afraid. If they try harder they will win, and live a good life and enjoy the Earth. If they don’t try as much they will die and “enter heaven”. Also, a warrior should always praise his job, never think lowly of it. -GAV
